Any philosophy attempts to order systematically the set of givens upon which it operates. The essential given of Judaism is the Torah, which defines the Jewish way of life, without recourse to philosophy. But we do not view the world or our lives in terms of only a mechanistic “what.” We yearn also to interpret, to address the causative “why” by formulating a life philosophy. This is what drives anyone religious to constructing one’s religious philosophy.
